Boys History
The CVYBL program began seven years ago under the direction of Bill West. The program
started out as an instructional group with boys in middle school (mostly younger siblings of
varsity players at the time) just getting together to learn the basics.

In 2006, Mr. West saw the need for a feeder program into the high school program and
opened up the program further to all boys in 6th-8th grades where we ending up hosting a
full middle school team and entering competition within the WPYLA league in 2007.

Once this part was established, Mr. West turned the program over to Connie Moretti, who,
along with Karen Shaak, quickly saw the program to the next level opening it up to younger
players and hosting two teams of boys!  As interest peaked at the high school level when
the boy’s high school team was inducted into WPIAL in 2009, so did interest in the boys
youth program, and we continue to hold strong and attract more athletes each season!
Marc returns for his third season joining Todd as a head coach. He is a level two US
Lacrosse certified coach, attended the CEP US Lacrosse Coach's Clinic in February,
and is CPR and first aid certified.

Marc is no stranger to the game of lacrosse as he brings hands-on knowledge of the
game as he played for Chartiers Valley high school boys lacrosse as a midfielder.  He
was a four-year varsity starter and team captain his senior year.

Marc also brings no-nonsense to the table with his coaching techniques. The kids
know when they can have fun or when it is time to buckle down.

Marc’s coaching background also includes coaching the middle school boy’s football
team for Chartiers Valley and also assisting with the varsity boy’s football team.  He
also assisted with the varsity girl’s team in 2008 and continues to dedicate time to
helping with the youth girl’s team when time permits.

Marc is a volunteer firefighter and also is currently attending RMU to obtain his
bachelor’s degree in business with concentration in sports management.
CVYGL History
The excitement of the new start of a youth boy's program and the prospect of the high
school boys becoming a WPIAL sport sparked much interest with the girls as well and was
the catalyst in a quick series of events leading to girls lacrosse at Chartiers Valley.

The youth/middle school girls program began in 2008 with the idea of starting out slow
with one middle school team. Due to almost instantaneous interest, their first season
actually opened with two teams - one youth and one middle school - with the youth team
undefeated in their first season!

For the program's second season in 2009, we grew to three teams - one team for each
level of play in the WPSLA league! The interest continues to grow and we couldn't be
more excited for the upcoming 2010 spring season!

Todd returns to the boy’s coaching staff as a head coach for a third season. He is a
level two US Lacrosse certified coach, holds his Double Goal Coach certification, and
is CPR and first aid certified. Todd has attended many lacrosse coaching clinics
including those at RMU and others offered through WPYLA and attended the CEP US
Lacrosse Coach's Clinic in February.

In addition to coaching the boys, he also is on staff with the youth girl’s coaches as
his daughter, Mackenzie, plays on their youth team, and his overall knowledge of the
game brings a different view to the table on that side.

Coaching youth boys comes easily to Todd. His background includes coaching within
the Chartiers Valley Junior Colts football and youth wrestling programs both as head
coach and an assistant for many years. His strict, no nonsense style keeps the boys
on their toes and gets them prepared mentally to face competition on the field.

Todd's son, Braeden, has been playing since 6th grade and now plays on the high
school boy’s team as an attack man. Braeden was also nominated for the US
Lacrosse award, “Spirit of the Game”, when he was in 8th grade. Todd’s younger
son, Patrick, has now been playing lacrosse since fourth grade and will join the team
again as a 6th grader, returning as an attack player.
After starting and head coaching the CVHS girl’s high school lacrosse program in
2007 and starting and coaching the CV youth girl’s program in 2008, then seeing the
varsity girl’s program into WPIAL in 2009, Connie has stepped down to focus solely
on youth girl’s program. She has attended coaching clinics at Duquesne, Ohio State,
and RMU.  She is a level two US Lacrosse certified coach and a Double Goal Coach
with the Positive Coaching Alliance. She has attended the US Lacrosse National
Coaches Convention forfour years. She holds CPR and first aid certifications,
membership with US Lacrosse, membership with NFHS, and also serves on the
communications committee for the
Pittsburgh Chapter of US Lacrosse.

Connie’s background also includes founding the Chartiers Valley Junior Colts football
cheer program and coaching there for six seasons. In addition, she has also
coached competitive cheer and dance, and has served on high school booster
boards for CV boy's lacrosse and CV varsity cheerleading.

She has served as secretary on the
WPYLA (boys) board for two years and is the
current board secretary for WPSLA (girls). Her daughter, Hayley (the inspiration to
start a girl’s lacrosse team), is finishing out her senior year of high school as one of
the first four-year varsity letter members of the CVHS girls lacrosse team!
New to the 2010 youth boy’s coaching staff is Casey Bonincontro! Casey was a four-
year varsity starter as a defenseman on the Chartiers Valley high school boys
lacrosse team, was captain in his senior year, and made the state all-star team in his
junior year. He is obtained his level one US Lacrosse coaching certification, attended
the CEP US Lacrosse Coach's Clinic in February, and is CPR and first aid certified.

Casey’s background also includes being an Eagle Scout and is just now graduating
from the Allegheny Police Academy. He plans to continue his education in criminology
and seek employment as a police officer. He is currently a volunteer firefighter.

We expect Casey to be an asset to our boy’s coaching staff and look forward to his
addition to our staff in 2010!
This will be Dean's second season as the girl's assistant coach. He has completed
the level one and level two US lacrosse coach's certification.

Dean’s coaching background includes coaching youth soccer (Y-license) – both
boys and girls, youth 7/8 year old football, youth wrestling and baseball at the pre-
tee, tee ball, and pony league levels.

Dean's daughter, Kelsey, has been on the team since its inception and will play her
third season as an 8th grade midfielder. His other daughter, Mackenzie, will return
as a midfielder for her second season on the 6th/7th grade team. Both girls are
strong forces on the teams, and we expect to see them both go very far in this
sport!
**All of our coaches must be US Lacrosse members and need to have completed
at least their level one US Lacrosse coaching certifications as well as be able to
pass a background check before becoming a staff coach. All head coaches also
have all clearances.

Our coaches continue their education when opportunities become available
and volunteer a tremendous amount of time to the sport and the players on the
field!
